Working at Northexis
We’re a small consultancy helping finance teams plan, report and consolidate. We want to be somewhere people are glad they joined – here’s how we go about it.
We’re not hiring right now.
We’re still happy to hear from people. If what’s below sounds like you, there’s a note at the bottom on how to get in touch.
What we believe
Our first priority is the people who work here. Of course we have to deliver for customers, or nobody gets paid. But projects come and go, and we want you to stick around.
-
Room to do your best work.
Things get busy sometimes, but we’ll make sure you have the time and resources to do the job properly. In return, we expect everyone to try their best.
-
Improve anything.
If you’ve an idea that would make things better for customers or for us, tell us. If it makes sense, we’ll help you be part of delivering it.
-
Mistakes aren’t the end.
We’ll stretch you, and that can mean getting things wrong. Own it, fix it, learn from it – no problem.
-
We do what we say.
To customers, and to each other. Turn up prepared, and get back to people when you said you would. Nobody should have to chase a colleague.
-
Straight answers.
We don’t overpromise, and we’ll tell you the reasons behind our decisions. You won’t agree with all of them, but we’ll always listen.
-
Delight customers, don’t just get sign-off.
Nobody’s proud to work somewhere that delivers barely acceptable work.
-
No surprises.
Talk to your manager about anything, any time, and they’ll do the same. We do annual reviews like everyone else, but nothing in one should ever come as a surprise.
-
Tell us.
We won’t always get it right, and we can’t read minds. So tell us when something needs fixing, and what you want from your career. We’ll support it as best we can.
How it works day to day
- Fully remote. We meet up now and then, and you’ll visit customers around the UK every month or two.
- Flexible from day one. Part-time and flexible working are on the table from the start – around childcare, or anything else. We’re Disability Confident Committed, and an Age-friendly Employer.
- Full training. In the software, in how we run projects, in planning, consolidation and reporting best practices, and in AI usage.
- Variety. Different industries and different problems, so there’s always something new in front of you.
- A hand in how we grow. We’re small, so your ideas change things.
The role we usually hire for
Associate implementation consultant – a trainee or junior role. When we next hire, it’ll most likely be this.
Newly qualified as an accountant, but realising you’d like to do something with that other than actually being an accountant? Or more experienced, but looking for a career change or something more flexible?
What the work is
Every implementation starts with a kickoff, where the customer shows us how they plan today – mostly a lot of Excel spreadsheets. The job is to understand what they’ve been doing, work out with them how it should run in the new software, and then set it up to do that.
Projects vary, but there’s always a problem to solve, and sometimes that means challenging the customer with different options.
As you develop, you’ll get involved before the sale too – meeting prospective customers and scoping how long their projects will take. You’ll start with plenty of support and training; the aim is for you to run all of it yourself.
- Training
- Building, with support
- Running projects
- Scoping new work
What we look for
- A trained accountant with real experience in the office of finance. Chartered is great, but we’ll happily consider an accountancy degree or other qualifications.
- Strong Excel. The software we use works through Excel, and a lot of the job is building and managing formulas – and making sheets look professional.
- Excellent written and spoken English, and a knack for building relationships.
- Attention to detail, and wanting to own a project’s success – which mostly means happy customers and work delivered when you said it would be.
- Happy working on your own. Much of the time it’s you and the software, so you’ll need to be a self-starter.
- Any data or database experience helps, but isn’t essential.
You’ll need to be eligible to work in the UK, and because of the data we work with, the role needs a background check.
How we do business
We’re accredited by the Good Business Charter, which checks how responsibly a business behaves. For the people who work here, that means fair hours and contracts, looking after wellbeing, and a say in how things are run. It also covers how we treat customers and suppliers – paying on time, and paying our fair share of tax.
Get in touch anyway
There’s nothing open at the moment, but if you think you’d fit, tell us a bit about yourself and what you’re after at careers@northexis.com. A CV helps, but isn’t essential.
We’ll keep what you send for 12 months in case something comes up, then delete it – sooner if you ask. If you’d need any adjustments for an interview, just say.
How we handle what you send is in our privacy policy.
