Data integration

AI tools from the future… data problems from the past.

Getting clean, current data out of the systems it lives in, automatically. It’s the part that decides whether everything else works. It’s an old problem – time to solve it.

What we usually find

  • Month end starts with a set of exports, a paste into the workbook and a check that the totals still match.

  • A new cost centre goes into the ledger, and the reports find out a fortnight later.

  • The feeds work, as long as the person who built them isn’t on holiday.

What we do

Six ways in, depending on where you’re starting from.

Integration health checks

A fixed-price look at the feeds you already have: what runs by itself, what’s done by hand, what breaks and how you’d find out. The findings are written down and the fixes are ranked.

Getting ready for a project

Before a new planning, reporting or ERP project, not halfway through it: which system is the master for each thing, what the mappings are, and how much history you want to bring.

Working with other partners

Plenty of partners stop at the edge of the software. If yours does, we’ll build the feeds into whatever they’re putting in, and work to their plan.

Mappings and metadata

The data about the data – cost centres, projects, products, hierarchies – kept in step across systems, so a new code in the ledger turns up everywhere it should.

Data for AI

An AI tool can only work with what it can see. Clean, current data in one place is the same work that fixes reporting, and it’s where any sensible AI plan starts.

Acquisitive groups and private equity

A new entity on a different ledger, brought in quickly and consistently with its history, rather than bolted on in a spreadsheet.

Integrations we’ve built

Most systems have a way out.

We integrate anything with an open API, a database we can reach, or a way to drop a file on a schedule – and most systems can do at least one of those. We build on dedicated integration tooling rather than a planning vendor’s own connectors, so there’s no fixed list of what we support.

Some of our recent integrations:

Our Consulting Director wrote the book on data integration – or at least a book – so projects default to fully automated feeds, unless there’s a good reason not to.

How it goes

  • Fixed fee. Agreed before anything starts, including the mapping and clean-up, which is usually the biggest part and the part most often left out of a quote.

  • Weeks rather than quarters. Something live and usable quickly, then built on.

  • Alerts when a load fails. If a feed falls over, you hear about it that morning, not from a report at month end.

  • Written down and handed over. Every feed has a page: where from, where to, how often, and how to maintain it. None of it depends on one person remembering.

  • Out in the open. Everything runs through our project platform that you have access to, and calls are recorded and transcribed.

Self-assessment

Find out where your data stands.

The Finance Check: Data integration is a few minutes of multiple choice questions about where finance gets its data from and how. You get a score, where the time is going, and three things to do without us. It’s worth doing before any project, and especially before an ERP change.

At the end, if you’re based in the UK or Ireland, you can pick one area for a free hour of consulting time, such as a look at how your data gets from system to system. If you’re a charity, it’s two hours.

No call required. Nobody rings you afterwards unless you ask them to.

Questions people ask

Which systems can you connect?

Anything with an open API, a database we can reach, or a way to drop a file on a schedule. The integrations above are just some we’ve built; more than half our projects involve integrating something we’ve not integrated before.

Can you work with our implementation partner?

Yes. Quite often the software tool’s in hand and the data isn’t. We’ll build the feeds into whatever’s being put in, and fit around their plan.

Does the data have to be perfect before we start?

No. Connect the core systems, get something useful out, and improve it from there. If you wait for perfect data, you’ll wait a long time – surfacing it is the best way to improve it.

Who looks after it afterwards?

You, if you want to – every feed is written down and handed over. If you’d rather not own the admin, we can keep it ticking over instead.

Where it connects

Most customers start in one and end up touching several.

No obligation, and no follow-up unless you want one

Start with a conversation that has a scope.

Thirty minutes, free, and you’ll know by the end whether there’s anything here for you. Most of the organisations we speak with aren’t looking to buy anything right now – we’re happy to educate and inform, for when the time is right.
